Pokemon: Squirtle Cake

When my daughter Talia turned 4, she wanted a Pokemon themed party with a Pikachu cake. When she turned 6, she wanted a Pokemon theme again! This time she chose Squirtle for her cake, and I wanted to make it look like it was swimming. Since I was busy with work, my husband helped out by baking the funfetti sheet cakes and a couple more cakes using hemisphere pans.

I started by covering and decorating the hemisphere cakes to look like Squirtle’s head and shell. For the tail, I carved more cake and covered with fondant too. Then I used buttercream frosting to make the sheet cakes look like water and used a bit of fondant for the plants. The final touches were using more frosting to add ripples in the water!
