Minecraft Cake

Created: November 2012

I made a Minecraft cake for my husband’s birthday, and it’s more complicated than it looks! It’s made out of 3 types of cakes: gluten-free yellow cake (top most layer), yellow cake (middle layer), and chocolate cake (bottom layer). All of it is covered with a peppermint frosting, and then vanilla fondant for the green parts and chocolate fondant for the brown parts. There’s cake rods and a cake board to support the top layer and create that opening in the back of the cake.

I also had to cover this cake differently since I wanted it to have a very blocky look. Instead of draping the fondant, I had to cut individual pieces for each side. I made all of the Minecraft figures on the cake with gumpaste and then hand painted them with icing coloring.

A cake that looks like a Minecraft scene with Steve and a Creeper behind him. There are Minecraft cow, sheep, chicken, and pig figures on the cake too.
